On view right now at Turn-Based Press is a small works show–prints, works-on-paper and artists’ books no larger than 6″ x 6″.  I have three works in the show, a hand-modified etching, a Kronen-fold book printed from a polymer litho plate, and a mezzotint.

Many other local artists are also in the show, which will be on view until Dec. 22.  On Friday, Dec. 6, Turn-Based Press will be open from 9 AM – Noon, and then again from 6 – 10 PM as part of the Downtown First Fridays.  Feel free to contact me if you’d like to arrange to see the show at another time.

Book Binding demonstration at Turn-Based Press, 100 NE 11th ST, Miami, FL, Dec. 6, 11 AMCarol Todaro and I worked on a collaboration called Book. We hand-drew positives, which I then screenprinted, to accompany a text that Carol adapted from Gertrude Stein. Carol finished the sheets with pigment-printed text, cut-outs and chine collée elements, and she’ll be binding the sheets into two book forms, the Kronen and the pamphlet, live at Turn-Based Press, this Friday, Dec. 6, at 11 AM.

The demonstration will be given for the occasion of the Downtown Miami Art Basel Miami Beach Artist Studio Visits, which is an official ABMB event.

Beatriz Monteavaro’s Quiet Village

As part of the [Name] Publications book series, Beatriz Monteavaro created a book titled Quiet Village, which reproduces a casually-bound, slightly worn book in which the artist made many, many drawings inspired by monster movies and exotica music (See: Quiet Village).

Quiet Village also includes a CD by Monteavaro’s band, Beings, and includes an essay by me–along with a bit of cut-n-paste, ziney visual KH stylings.  With flies.

There will be a book release event this Saturday night, October 24 at Sweat Records, from 7:30 to 10:30 PM.  Beings will perform, as will Boise Bob and his Backyard Band. Sweat Records is located at 5505 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL, 33138.
